David Jones

David Jones is the A. Bernard Ackerman Professor of the Culture of Medicine at Harvard University. A psychiatrist and historian of medicine, he teaches history, medical ethics, and social medicine at Harvard College and Harvard Medical School. He has pursued several research projects. One examined the history of the epidemics that followed European arrival in the Americas, focusing on both the social determinants of disease and the explanations given for the health inequalities that exist between populations. Another traced the history of decision making in cardiac therapeutics in the twentieth century, especially the problem of decision making in the setting of uncertainty. He is currently working on a history of heart disease and health policy in India.
