Edward Baring's dissertation, "The Young Derrida and French Philososphy, 1946-1967," reconsiders Derrida’s relationship to the philosophical mainstream in postwar France, its key movements and its major institutions. In particular, Baring studies the impact of Christian existentialism, the rise of French epistemology, and the role of the agrègation de philosophie in Derrida’s work.
