About:

Speaker: Jan Burzlaff, William A. Ackman Fellow for Holocaust Studies, Department of History, Harvard University

The Netherlands has been mostly absent from ongoing efforts to write the social history of Nazi-occupied Europe – and yet, the lands lodged between the North Sea and France offer a powerful case in point to grapple with the persecution of ethnic minorities, and institutional racism creeping into daily life.

Giving voice to 500 Holocaust survivors from the Netherlands, Jan Burzlaff's presentation unveils a new image of Dutch society during World War II that experienced many behaviors between “resistance/collaboration” and political “polarization/unity."
