Location:

56 Brattle Street, Cambridge, MA

Our Gonson Daytime Lecture Series begins next week, covering a wide range of topics, from history to civic engagement. The second lecture in the series, “Preserving History: Public Media Archives at WGBH” may be of interest to you and your students. This interactive presentation will take place on Wednesday, October 11 at 11:00 a.m. at 56 Brattle Street in Harvard Square and is open to the public with $5 admission.

Karen Cariani, Senior Director, WGBH Media Library and Archives and Casey Davis Kaufman, Associate Director, WGBH Media Library and Archives, will highlight the ongoing efforts to digitize, preserve, and provide access to the extensive WGBH archives. Your students will have the opportunity to help in the effort to improve the searchability and accessibility of digitized, historic public media content with a game called FIX IT. Attendees can work to identify errors and suggest changes to transcripts of archived content, and players’ corrections will be made available in public media’s largest digital archive.

Additional information on this lecture as well as the others in this series can be found here: https://ccae.org/gonsonlectures. Attendees can RSVP in advance through Eventbrite, or purchase tickets at the door.

Please let us know if you have any questions or require further information. It is our sincere hope that you and your students will be able to join us and experience this unique method of digital preservation.
