CES: "Populism in Europe from the Right to the Left"

Date:

Thursday, April 16, 2015, 4:15pm to 6:00pm

Location:

Adolphus Busch Hall, Lower Level Conference Room
The past fifteen years have seen a resurgence of populist politics in Europe ranging from parties such as the Front national in France to the left-wing party Podemos in Spain. What is the significance of these movements at a moment of persistent economic malaise, intense popular frustration with unemployment and social inequality, anti-immigrant sentiment, Islamophobia and anti-Semitism? Three distinguished experts in the field, Laurent Bouvet (Université de Versailles à St. Quentin en Yvelines), Sophia Perez (Boston University) and Cas Mudde (University of Georgia) offer their perspectives.
