The Honourable Mona Makram-Ebeid
Former Egyptian MP and Senator; Distinguished Lecturer, Political Science, American University of Cairo

Dr. Mona Makram-Ebeid has had a long and distinguished career as a Parliamentarian, teacher, and international consultant.  Dr. Makram-Ebeid is a graduate of Harvard University and the recipient of several awards, which include Fulbright Scholarship, Aspen Institute Alumni, Salzburg Seminar Alumni, Wilson Center for International Scholars Fellowship and Chevalier de la Legion D’Honneur. Since 1983, Dr. Makram-Ebeid has been a lecturer in political science and sociology at the American University of Cairo.  Dr. Makram-Ebeid was an Egyptian MP for five years, serving on the Committees of Foreign Affairs, Education and Budget. Dr. Makram-Ebeid also served as an advisor to the World Bank (MENA region), as a consultant to the Center for Strategic International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, and as a regional expert for the UN.  Dr. Makram-Ebeid is a member of countless organizations which focus on education and civil society, human rights and women’s issues, among them: the Arab Thought Forum, Jordan; The British University in Egypt and the Jordan-German University.  Dr. Makram-Ebeid is a founding member of the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights, the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs, and is a Trustee of Egypt's International Economic Forum.  Dr. Makram-Ebeid has recently been elected to the Board of the Club of Rome.
