John LeDonne has been interested in problems of Russian regional administration since graduating from Columbia University. He is the author of Absolutism and Ruling Class, The Formation of the Russian Political Order l700-l825 (Oxford, 1991), The Russian Empire and the World 1700-1917The Geopolitics of Expansion and Containment (Oxford, 1997), and The Grand Strategy of the Russian Empire 1650-1831 (Oxford 2003). His manuscript Empire or Unitary State? Russia's Management of the Eurasian Space 1650-1850 is under consideration at Toronto University Press. He plans to continue his research on regional administration in Russia.
