Leida Fernández Prieto is a visiting scholar at DRCLAS for the academic year 2015-16. She holds a Ph.D from the University of Havana, Cuba and is a Researcher of the Comparative Studies Group on Caribbean and Atlantic World in the Institute of History at Spanish National Research Council. Previously she was a Researcher at the Center for the Study of the History of Science and Technology and National Museum of History of Science and Technology “Carlos J. Finlay”, Academy of Sciences of Cuba (1991-2006). She has been a visiting scholar at the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies at New York University and is the author of two books, Cuba Agrícola: mito y tradición, 1878-1920, and Espacio de poder, ciencia y agricultura: el Círculo de Hacendados. She has also published several book chapters and articles on subjects pertaining to Cuban agriculture in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Her current research focuses on the multiplicity of knowledge, practices and agents which formed a part of the construction and circulation of global and local scientific tropical agriculture.
