The Global Environments Working Group will meet this Tuesday, March 5th, from 5:45 - 7:00 pm in 9 Kirkland Place to workshop Camden Elliott's paper titled "Observations on the Nature and Culture of Environmental History, Redux." Please email <nathanielmoses@g.harvard.edu> to RSVP and receive a copy of the paper. Abstract: In the two decades since J. R. McNeill wrote his authoritative historiographic survey of the still punchy and new field of environmental history surveys of the field have proliferated nearly as quickly as works in the field. These have, however, tended to focus on geographic regions or temporally defined. There is, to my mind, no singular survey that could be given to a student or colleague curious about the field that would adequately survey the whole landscape of the field. This essay, then, is an attempt to offer such a survey by taking seriously the charge of environmental history and structuring a survey of the field around environments.
