The Harvard Classics Department and the GSAS research workshop Technical Traditions in Greece and Rome: Between Theory and Practice are sponsoring a talk on Tuesday, October 24, 4:30–6:00 in Emerson 101, by Professor John Peter Oleson. The title of the talk, which focuses on the technology of navigation in the ancient Mediterranean, is ‘Herodotus, Aristotle and Sounding Weights: The Deep Sea as a Frontier in the Hellenistic and Roman World.’
