- October 27th: Jean-Baptiste Belley
- Lecture 1: Jean-Baptiste Belley was a black freedman who traveled from Haiti to France in 1794 to convince the French parliament to pass a law abolishing slavery. Amazingly, he succeeded (becoming the first black deputy in the French parliament in the process), only to meet a tragic end as Napoléon Bonaparte later reneged on emancipation.
