LMSAI: Faiham Ebna Sharif

Date:

Thursday, April 12, 2018, 4:30pm to 6:30pm

Location:

CGIS South, S250, 1730 Cambridge Street, Cambridge, MA

This session is sponsored by the Lakshmi Mittal South Asia Institute at Harvard.

Faiham Ebna Sharif, photographer and a Visiting Artist from Bangladesh at Harvard will deliver a presentation titled "Tea Tales of Bangladesh."

The session will be chaired by Sugata Bose, Gardiner Professor of History at Harvard. Comments on Faiham's work will be delivered by Alison Nordstörm, independent curator and historian of photography.

Faiham's work on labourers in the tea gardens of Bangladesh crosses boundaries of artistic expression and academic argumentation. While being an accomplished photographer, he is trying to engage in dialogue with historians and anthropologists. Our seminar series is especially interested in cross-disciplinary work of the sort he is trying to pioneer.

A sample of his relevant work may be found here: http://faihamebnasharif.com/2016/10/06/sorrows-of-tea-workers/.
