**What was George Thinking?**

Cambridge, MA – Join us in the historic Longfellow carriage house at 6:00 p.m. on Thursdays, November 6, 13, and 20 for “Letters from Washington.” These discussions will be based upon readings of letters and excerpts of letters written by George Washington during both his military and political careers and will focus primarily on a single topic each week. Copies of the selected readings will be provided at the events. Just bring yourself and be prepared to delve into the meanings of Washington’s words! The scheduled topics are as follows:

 November 6: Native Americans

 November 13: Nationhood

 November 20: Slavery

Longfellow House–Washington’s Headquarters National Historic Site was home to America’s most popular 19th century poet and scholar, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and his family from 1837-1950. The historic 1759 colonial mansion was also General George Washington’s first major headquarters during the American Revolution. The house and its collections were a gift to the nation from Longfellow’s descendants in 1972. Its extensive collections and grounds represent more than 250 years of America’s history and literature.

The site is easily accessible from the MBTA Red Line Harvard Square subway stop. On-site parking is not available.
