Location:

Cochran Chapel, 2 Chapel Ave. Andover, MA

The United States is culminating five years of commemoration of the pivotal events in its history. Dr. Edward Ayers, Civil War scholar and president of the University of Richmond, will explore what we have learned about ourselves and our history during these years, and then offer thoughts about what we still need to learn—and how we might go about learning it.

Ayers is board chair of the new American Civil War Museum in Richmond, the author of 10 books on American history, and the recipient of a National Humanities Medal, awarded by President Obama in summer 2013. His digital archive project, The Valley of the Shadow: Two Communities in the American Civil War, has been used in thousands of classrooms around the world.
