### [Canada Seminar](https://www.wcfia.harvard.edu/seminars/canada/schedule)

## Sugar Farmers of Manitoba

“Sugar Farmers of Manitoba” is the title of a book published by the Manitoba Beet Growers Association in 1968. This detailed institutional history also provides inadvertent and disturbing insight into the history of racism and settler colonialism in Canada. A more comprehensive history of sugar in the province has yet to be written, and this talk is a step toward that task.

### Speaker

- Janis Thiessen, Professor of History, University of Manitoba.

### Chair

- Mary Jane McCallum, William Lyon Mackenzie King Visiting Professor of Canadian Studies, Canada Program. Professor, Canada Research Chair in Indigenous People, History and Archives, Department of History, University of Winnipeg.

This event is being hosted elsewhere on campus, and not by the History Department. To learn more, please see the [original event posting](https://www.wcfia.harvard.edu/event/canada-seminar-10-13-26).
