On Wednesday, 13th October at 12pm in Barker 133, Prof. Kusimba will run a masterclass, “What Role did Climate Change and Disease Play in the Decline and Collapse of Swahili Urbanism?”

How did past state societies respond to climate change and disease pandemics? To answer these historical questions, Professor Kusimba will discuss his ongoing archaeological research in East Africa aimed at understanding the role climate change and disease pandemics played in the decline and eventual collapse of medieval African civilization.
