Elisheva Carlebach (Columbia University), "Archive Envy: An Early Modern Jewish Community and its Records." The formation of archives has become the object of critical historical inquiry. This lecture explores dimensions of Jewish communal archives from the early modern period with particular emphasis on the rich archive of the Hamburg-Altona community and its fate.
