In this new book, Mateo Jarquín explores the rise and fall of Nicaragua’s Sandinista Revolution (1979-1990). Whereas most scholars recall the Sandinistas from U.S. debates over the Reagan administration’s policies in Central America, Jarquín recenters the Nicaraguan Revolution as a major episode in the history of Latin America, the international left, and the Cold War. Since the 1970s, Germany has experienced five energy transitions. In 2018, the country started to rethink its dependence on fossil fuels and initiated a plan to a low-carbon, nuclear free economy.
