#  Hannah Shepherd Awarded 2019 Gross Prize

 [Dr. Hannah Shepherd](https://www.ames.cam.ac.uk/people/dr-hannah-shepherd) received this year’s Gross Prize for her dissertation entitled “Cities into Empire: Fukuoka, Pusan, and Japan’s Imperial Urbanization, 1876-1953.” The [Harold K. Gross Dissertation Prize](https://prizes.fas.harvard.edu/prize-office/prize-descriptions#gross) is “awarded each year at Graduation to the Ph.D. recipient whose dissertation, in the opinion of a committee of Department \[of History\] members, gave greatest promise of a distinguished career of historical research.”
