In this public talk, Harvard Graduate Student Julia Alekseyeva will discuss her recent graphic memoir, “Soviet Daughter,” the story of her rebellious, independent great-grandmother coming of age in the USSR, and the impact of this story on Alekseyeva’s own life several decades later. In conversation with Alekseyeva, comics scholar Hillary Chute, author of Disaster Drawn: Visual Witness, Comics, and Documentary Form and Graphic Women: Life Narrative and Contemporary Comics, will discuss comics as a unique medium for telling and studying historical memoir.
