DESCRIPTION:<p>	<strong>The Center for Middle Eastern Studies </strong><em>is pleased to present</em><br aria-hidden="true"><strong>Constructing the Past in a Fractured Present: A History of Late Ottoman Historical Writing, 1839-1922</strong><br><br><em>with</em><br><br aria-hidden="true"><strong>Erdem Sönmez</strong><br aria-hidden="true">Assistant Professor, Social Sciences University of Ankara<br aria-hidden="true"><br aria-hidden="true">Erdem Sönmez is a historian of the modern Middle East with a particular research focus on the late Ottoman Empire and republican Turkey. He received his Ph.D. in History from Bilkent University in 2018 and currently works as an Assistant Professor of History at the Social Sciences University of Ankara in Turkey. His work has appeared in such journals as the Modern Intellectual History, British Journal of Middle Eastern Studies, Turkish Historical Review, and Middle Eastern Studies, among others.
