SUMMARY:Culinary Historians | Taste of Revolution: Soldiers’ Food in the War for Independence
DESCRIPTION:
Baker and historian Jeff Pavlik allows us to look into the pack of a soldier in the American Revolution and the foods that sustained him. Based on his archival research and cooking re-enactments, audience members learn about the rations that a soldier received, how he needed to improvise and adapt in the face of hardships and hunger, and how military units used their ingenuity to prepare and cook meals using the simplest of tools and makeshift equipment. Come and listen to the soldiers’ own voices as they describe what and how they ate during the years of the American War for Independence.

Jeff Pavlik is a professional baker, historian, and educator. For 25 years, he owned and operated a neighborhood bakery and now teaches the Culinary Arts at Lincoln High School in Warren, Michigan. As an avid re-enactor, Chef Jeff enjoys bringing the past to life and teaching 18th-Century foodways at museums and historic sites across the country.

This event is in partnership with the Culinary Historians of Ann Arbor.

The Library will be providing a live stream of this event and we intend to make it available for future viewing. A video player will appear on the event website 1 hour before the start of the event.
