SUMMARY:Sugar Farmers of Manitoba
DESCRIPTION:
Canada Seminar

Sugar Farmers of Manitoba

“Sugar Farmers of Manitoba” is the title of a book published by the Manitoba Beet Growers Association in 1968. This detailed institutional history also provides inadvertent and disturbing insight into the history of racism and settler colonialism in Canada. A more comprehensive history of sugar in the province has yet to be written, and this talk is a step toward that task.

Speaker

Janis Thiessen, Professor of History, University of Manitoba.

Chair

Mary Jane McCallum, William Lyon Mackenzie King Visiting Professor of Canadian Studies, Canada Program.
