This seminar reflects on the situation of the Spanish language in four regions of linguistic-cultural borders in Asia, Africa, America and Europe. The areas to which special attention will be paid are: Philippines, where Spanish has historical presence since the sixteenth century; Africa, in secular contact with the Iberian Peninsula, especially in the Maghreb; America, where the situation of the border between Mexico and the United States overlaps with the internal border between the American Hispanic population, the country's largest minority, and the Anglo-Saxon population; and Europe, where knowledge of Spanish as a second language continues to grow. These four border spaces offer specificities and coincidences that deserve reflection from linguistic, social and cultural points of view.
Seminario dedicado a la reflexión sobre la situación de la lengua española en cuatro regiones de fronteras lingüístico-culturales, en Asia, África, América y Europa. Las áreas a las que se prestará especial atención serán Filipinas, donde el español tiene presencia histórica desde el siglo XVI; África, en contacto secular con la península Ibérica, especialmente en la zona del Magreb; América, donde la situación de la frontera entre México y los Estados Unidos se superpone con la frontera interior estadounidense entre la población hispana, primera minoría del país, y la anglosajona; y Europa, donde avanza intensamente el conocimiento del español como lengua segunda y extranjera. Estos cuatro espacios de frontera ofrecen coincidencias y particularidades, desde las perspectivas lingüística, social y cultural, que merecen un análisis de conjunto.
