DESCRIPTION:<p><drupal-media data-entity-type="media" data-entity-uuid="a2b8142b-af97-4ff2-8d42-44a8ccde9888" data-align="left" data-view-mode="hwp_small"></drupal-media>Dance Performance and Discussion</p><p><strong> <em>Dying While Black &amp; Brown</em></strong></p><p> A dance performance first commissioned by the San Francisco Equal Justice Society, <em>Dying While Black &amp; Brown</em> focuses on capital punishment and the disproportionate numbers of incarcerated people of color. The piece was created by Zaccho Dance Theatre’s Artistic Director, Joanna Haigood, in collaboration with renowned jazz composer Marcus Shelby. It was created in response to the Equal Justice Society’s campaign to restore 14<sup>th</sup> Amendment protections for victims of discrimination including those on death row.</p><p> Performed by the <strong>Zaccho Dance Theatre</strong> from San Francisco, CA</p><p>Choreography and Direction by <strong>Jonna Haigood</strong></p><p>Music by <strong>Marcus Shelby</strong></p><p> Post-performance discussion including <strong>Diann Rust-Tierney</strong>, Executive Director of the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty.</p><p> <em>Co-sponsored with the Charles Hamilton Houston Institute for Race &amp; Justice, HLS Criminal Justice Institute, HLS Criminal Justice Program of Study, Research and Advocacy, HLS Capital Punishment Clinic, Prison Studies Project, Phillips Brooks House Association Prison Education Program, and the Harvard Organizations for Prison Education and Reform.</em></p><p><strong> 2019 </strong><strong>Milstein West, Wassertein Hall, Harvard Law School, 1585 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA</strong></p><p>Free and open to the public.
