As a consequence private actors adopted tasks of public interest that also involved the questions of reparation payments, disarmament and establishing a European customs union. Some of these actors played an important role after the German occupation of France in 1940. Taking into account their ideas of organizing economic interests can shed new light on the goals and ambitions behind French collaboration in the Second World War.

Philipp Müller Visiting Scholar, CES, Harvard University

Sponsors: Visiting Scholars Seminar: New Research on Europe

Contact: Arthur Goldhammer, art.goldhammer@gmail.com
