SUMMARY:CES: Schumpeter as Play-Doh: Herbert Giersch and the Intellectual Origins of the Competition State
DESCRIPTION:
Dieter Plehwe

Senior Research Fellow, Inequality and Social Policy Research Unit, Berlin Social Science Center (WZB); WZB Fellow, CES, Harvard University; Visiting Scholar, CES, Harvard University

Visiting Scholars Seminar: New Research on Europe

Germany’s coordinated variety of capitalism is not often considered the homeland of neoliberal globalism. It is rather the United States (often in tandem with the United Kingdom) that scholars see as the standard-bearer of post-Cold War march of the global free market. This talk will suggest that Giersch has his place in an important but overlooked lineage of neoliberal globalism that one might label “made in Germany.”

Sponsors

Visiting Scholars Seminar: New Research on Europe
