DESCRIPTION:<p> </p><p><strong>Bobby Seale in Conversation</strong></p><p><em>Please note - due a scheduling conflict, Henry Louis Gates, Jr. will no longer be participating in the conversation with Bobby Seale.</em></p><p><strong> Bobby Seale</strong> was Original 1966 Founding Chairman and National Organizer of the Black Panther Party. His activism and trials brought America and the world face to face with the Panthers’ radical articulation of civil rights and human rights for African Americans. </p><p>Professor <strong>Jim Sidanius</strong>, professor of psychology and African and African American Studies at Harvard, brings a “front line" perspective as a scholar of racism, social hierarchies, and social organization to this conversation with Bobby Seale. An activist in the civil rights, anti-war, and Black Power movements of the 1960s, he left the U.S. for Sweden in 1970, where he renounced his American citizenship and became a Swedish citizen in 1974. He returned to the United States in 1984 as a Swedish national with permanent residency, and his work on race has been informed by the social hierarchies he witnessed and experienced there.  </p><p> </p><p>Join <strong>Bobby Seale</strong> and <strong>Jim Sidanius</strong> for a conversation that will enhance the historical record of the Black Panther Party and how we understand it. </p><p> </p>
