Benjamin W. Goossen is a global historian of religion and science at Harvard University. He is the author of Chosen Nation: Mennonites and Germany in a Global Era, published in 2017 by Princeton University Press. Offering a multifaceted perspective on nationalism’s emergence in Europe and the world over the past two centuries, Chosen Nation is the first book to place Christianity and global diaspora at the heart of nationality studies. Goossen’s current project, “The Year of the Earth (1957-1958): Cold War Science and the Making of Planetary Consciousness,” is an interpretive history of the International Geophysical Year.
