Office Hours: T.B.D.

Pizzorno’s research and teaching focus on the history and archaeology of the ancient Mediterranean and the Near East, as well as digital scholarship and methods. Areas of particular interest include imperialism and politics in complex societies and strategies of power legitimization and propaganda in early states. A particular focus of Pizzorno’s research is the construction and mediation of space and landscape as the interplay of material, social, and cognitive components. Because of this interest he has done significant work on mapping, cartography, and spatial representation of data in general. He is also keenly interested in the development and use of digital methodologies and in the complexities of integrating them in the humanities and social sciences.

In the Department of History, Pizzorno teaches courses on digital history and ancient history. He also coordinates departmental initiatives in digital research and pedagogy. In this capacity he oversees the Digital Teaching Fellows Program, co–chairs the department’s Digital Working Group, and serves as a member of the Digital Arts and Humanities Committee.
