Linda K. Kerber is May Brodbeck Professor in Liberal Arts, Professor of History and Lecturer in Law Emerita at the University of Iowa. In her writing and teaching she has emphasized the history of citizenship, gender, and authority. She is now at work on a book tentatively entitled *Legal Ghosts: Stateless in a Nation of Citizens.*  In 2006 she served as president of the American Historical Association. During the academic year 2006-07 she was Harmsworth Professor of American History at Oxford University. She is an elected member of the American Philosophical Society and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Her papers are in the collections of the Schlesinger Library at the Radcliffe Institute.
