Paul Schmelzing is a PhD Candidate, concentrating on Economic and Financial History, particularly the History of the International Financial System. His current research focuses on long-run real interest rate and "safe asset" trends since the 14th century. He is a Visiting Scholar at the Bank of England since 2016, and also a visiting fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University.
