Sarah Kennedy Bates, a Ph.D. candidate in History, is working on the history and anthropology of global political economy, with a particular emphasis on Southeast Asia. Focusing on the Financial Crisis of 1997/98, her dissertation examines social mobility, precarity, and community and labour organisation in late twentieth century Indonesia.
