Caroline Elkins is Professor of History and African American Studies at Harvard University. Her work focuses on colonial violence and post-conflict reconciliation in Africa, and the role of violence in the decline of the British empire. Her first book, Imperial Reckoning: The Untold Story of Britain’s Gulag in Kenya, won the 2006 Pulitzer Prize.
