Manuel Barcia is a Professor of Hispanic Studies at the University of Leeds. He's the author of three books and several articles focusing on the experiences of the African Diaspora in Cuba and Brazil. His most recent book, West African Warfare in Bahia and Cuba: Soldier Slaves in the Atlantic World, 1807-1844, was recently published within the prestigious Past & Present book series of Oxford University Press. Manuel is now working on the history of the Havana Cubans/Cuban Sugar Kings, a baseball team that was based in Havana from 1946 to 1960.
