Kashish Bastola ’26 Awarded Marshall Scholarship, Off to Oxford

History concentrator Kashish Bastola '26 has been awarded a Marshall Scholarship which will take him to Oxford for two years. At Oxford, Bastola plans to continue his studies in history with a focus on British and American military history. As the United States celebrates its 250th birthday, the British government has selected Bastola and 42 other Americans to support their graduate studies in the United Kingdom for two years. Established in 1953 by the British Parliament to honor the Marshall Plan, the scholarship aims to strengthen the special US-UK relationship and foster future public servants.

Bastola's thesis entitled “The CIA’s ‘Young Turks’: Tibetan Nationalists in the Cold War University,” was supervised by Professor Erika Lee and recently won the Thomas T. Hoopes Prize. He also received early election to Phi Beta Kappa and has been awarded the Lucy Allen Paton Prize in the Humanities for his academic record.
