Marino Auffant Awarded 2023 Gross Prize

Congratulations to 2022 History Ph.D. recipient Dr. Marino Felipe Auffant for being awarded this year’s Gross Prize for his dissertation entitled “Globalizing Oil, Unleashing Capital: An International History of the 1970s Crisis.”  

Honorable mention was also awarded to the following 2022 History Ph.D. recipients:

Dr. Samantha Payne for “The Last Atlantic Revolution: Reconstruction and the Struggle for Democracy in the Americas”

Dr. Ruodi Duan for “Ends of Solidarity: China, Tanzania, and Black Internationalism, 1960-1972”

Dr. Gili Kliger for “Colonial Reformation: Religion, Empire, and the Origins of Modern Social Thought”

The Harold K. Gross Dissertation Prize is “awarded each year at Graduation to the Ph.D. recipient whose dissertation, in the opinion of a committee of Department [of History] members, gave greatest promise of a distinguished career of historical research.”
