Adriana Zenteno Hopp
Originally from Bolivia, Adriana earned a B.A. in Spanish Literature and Latin American Studies from Grinnell College in 2017. In 2018 she joined Harvard’s PhD program in History, where she currently studies colonial Latin America. Her future research plans combine her interest in language with a profound desire to better understand the socio-cultural hybridity of the region. In particular, Adriana wishes to explore how indigenous and Spanish women navigated 18th century Potosí’s highly hierarchal and patriarchal society. To shed light on the historical questions that drive her research, she plans to apply her sensitivity to the use of language to re-read and hopefully re-interpret both literary and more traditionally historical sources. In this way, she expects to further understand how racializing discourse was interwoven in the lived experience of colonialism.
