Andy Chen
Andy Chen is a PhD candidate in the Department of History. His research interests include middle Byzantine socioeconomic history, the history of economic life and thought, trade and diplomacy, and organizational sociology. He is also curious about the afterlives of Byzantium in modern identity construction in the eastern Mediterranean. Prior to coming to Harvard, his projects focused on the performance of religion in military settings and the advisory dimension of Emperor Leo VI’s Taktika. He completed his BA in Linguistics, Classics, and Medieval Studies at UC Santa Barbara and his MA in Medieval Studies at Central European University, Budapest.
