Hagar studies the surprising in history. A student of Global History, her work focuses on British Empire-Qing encounters in the nineteenth century, primarily through the opium trade, as a way of discovering how the unexpected has influenced modern political economic structures. Research interests span not only continents but also intellectual, cultural, political and economic histories.
