Jake Stattel

Jake Stattel is a postdoc Research Fellow at Girton College, University of Cambridge and the Dept. of Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic. He completed his PhD in Medieval History at Cambridge while a visitor at Harvard. He also holds an MPhil from Cambridge and a BA from Swarthmore College.
Jake works on early medieval history through the lens of legal practice, particularly for understanding the impact of the "Vikings" in Europe and beyond. His current monograph project evaluates the Scandinavian influence on English common law. The article "Legal Culture in the Danelaw" has won three "best article" prizes from the ASLH, MAA, and ISSEME.
