Nikolas (Niko) Weyland

Nikolas (Niko) Weyland entered the History Ph.D. Program at Harvard in the Fall of 2020. Raised in Austin, Texas, he graduated from Cornell University with a B.A. in History and Government in May of 2020. His specialization in the History Ph.D. Program is in Modern European History. He is especially interested in migration, debates over national identity, and political development in late-nineteenth and twentieth century Central Europe, particularly in Germany and Poland. His dissertation will investigate the sociopolitical activities of Polish-speaking migrants and their descendants in the German Ruhr region between the late-nineteenth and mid-twentieth centuries while also examining the treatment of these so-called "Ruhrpolen" by German state officials, companies, and sociologists.
