Chao Lang entered the History and East Asian Languages program in 2018. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Science from Peking University, and a joint degree in Juris Doctor/ Masters of Arts from Duke University. Her Master thesis seeks to examine Qianlong Emperor’s policies towards Uyghur Islam. At Harvard, she plans to focus her research on the political-economic and environmental history of Xinjiang during the Qing dynasty—she is particularly interested in cotton production, cross-border cotton textile trade and their impacts on late-Imperial China.
