The Annual Parry Lecture

Prof. Gaetano Sabatini (University of Rome III)

By studying the activities and networks of groups of merchants and bankers that operated on a global scale, this talk will reconstruct the Portuguese early modern empire as a flexible, self-organized, and self-regulated structure, much more complex socially and geographically than we have imagined in the past.
