DRCLAS: "Imperial Webs: Early Modern Merchants and Bankers and the Making of Portuguese Maritime Expansion"

Thursday, March 31, 2016, 12:00pm to 1:30pm

Robinson Hall Lower Library, 35 Quincy Street, Cambridge, MA

The Annual Parry Lecture

Prof. Gaetano Sabatini (University of Rome III)

By studying the activities and networks of groups of merchants and bankers that operated on a global scale, this talk will reconstruct the Portuguese early modern empire as a flexible, self-organized, and self-regulated structure, much more complex socially and geographically than we have imagined in the past.

(Lunch will be offered)
