Patrick Weil will discuss his new book, which re-examines the remarkable life of U.S. Ambassador William Bullitt and delves into his collaboration with Sigmund Freud on a psychobiography of Woodrow Wilson. The book, based on Weil's discovery in the Yale Library of the hither to unknown original manuscript of the Bullitt-Freud biography, sheds new light on both psychoanalysis and Wilson's failure to shape the post-World War I order as he had hoped.
Speaker: Patrick Weil, Florence Rogatz Visiting Professor of Law, Yale Law School; Senior Research Fellow, French National Research Center, University of Paris
Discussant: Elizabeth Lunbeck, Chair, Department of the History of Science; Professor of the History of Science in Residence, Harvard University
